OUR HISTORY
In May 1973, members of the Korean Women's Club and a group of American
Women led by the commanding general's wife of the 19th support Command met
to organize a Korean-American Women's Club.

The first meeting was held on September 20, 1973 with twenty women present.
This group continued to meet monthly September through May until October 1991,
when with a member of eighty (50 Koreans/ 30 Internationals), the Article of
Association and name were changed to reflect the organization's role as an
international women's association with sister units in Seoul and Busan.

T.I.W.A. presently has a membership of 160 ladies (100 Koreans/ 60
Internationals).
WHAT WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO
TIWA is a private, civic, nonprofit association for the purpose of promoting
friendship, providing community services, aiding community projects supporting
international and Korean Welfare, acquiring a better understanding of our
environment.

You can also have further opportunities to share social, cultural and community
interests among women of different nationalities in TIWA.
TIWA is a charitable organization donating funds to needy institutions like
orphanages, homeless shelters, churches etc. in Taegu area.
In each month, we also prepare an exciting program of variety and fun, such as
picnics around Taegu area, international and Korean Fashion Shows, Charity
auctions, tea ceremonies, and Christmas tours of homes etc.

In addition to our monthly general meetings, You can also get a chance to learn
special activities in a small group. We have cooking, quilting, Korean, oil painting,
tea ceremony, and dance classes, and charity activities.

In the past the profits from the Auctions, Ways and means, Raffle tickets, Food
bazaars has gone to support groups in the Daegu area -

the poor, old aged singles, orphans of Namgu district Welfare Center,
the Legal Aid Center,
Joseph's House for homeless,
Daesungwon,
Typhoon Victims
and various religious welfare centers
(Paul's study room, Roombini House, Sisters' house)

via cash, toys,  time, hugs, or by other needy items.

We primarily focus on providing financial assistance to groups which do not
receive government assistance or have a hard time finding funding to meet basic
needs.  However we are proud to support a variety of organization within our US
Military community such as Taegu American School, the Girls and Boy scouts,
Cheer leaders of Taegu American school, AFTB/AFAP, Volunteers Recognition
Banquet and Women's Cancer Concern.
